Highway 20 Shut Down after Semi/Car Collision Near Dyersville

An accident shut down Highway 20 on the east side of Dyersville for about two hours Friday morning.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says two people were injured when a car and semi collided shortly after 7:30 am.

The investigation shows 17-year old Quinton Gaul of Dyersville was crossing Highway 20 at Wuchter Road when he was hit by a semi driven by 30-year old Todd Capesius of Bernard. The collision severely damaged both vehicles and caused the semi to overturn, blocking the highway and spilling its load of shelled corn onto the road.

Gaul and Capesius were both transported to local hospitals for what authorities believed were non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic was re-routed onto Olde Hawkeye Road and through Dyersville for about two hours while authorities investigated and crews cleaned up the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office has cited Gaul for failing to yield upon entering a through highway.
