HS BASKETBALL: Weekend Recap/Preview

Two area coverage Class 2A high school girls basketball teams advance on to Regional Finals with victories Friday night.

The top-ranked 23-0 North Linn Lynx took down Jesup 76-51 behind the efforts of senior Ashley Tull who posted a career high scoring 32 points. The Lynx who are enjoying their 8th straight 20 plus win season and qualified for their 7th Regional Final in a row looking for their 4th state trip in five seasons. North Linn gets that opportunity tonight in Jesup where they will meet 9th-rated 22-2 Dike-New Hartford. The 6th-ranked 21-3 Cascade Cougars beat MFL-MarMac at home 57-42 and compete for the state appearance tonight at Dubuque Senior High School against 12th-ranked 19-5 Bellevue, we’ll have score updates from that contest.

On Saturday night-

The Class 3A 9th-rated 19-5 Monticello Panthers were our first coverage area team to make the state tournament bracket with a 59-33 win over No. 4 Osage In Independence. The Panthers drew the 6-seed at state and will face 3-seeded Clear Lake on Tuesday, Feb. 27th at 3:15pm.

Anamosa had their season ended by top-ranked Crestwood 77-45 in Oelwein, the Lady Raiders tied for the second most wins in school program history with 19.

The 10th-rated 18-5 Western Dubuque Bobcats fell in a 4A semifinal in Cedar Rapids to Xavier 50-46.

Also tonight, Class 3A and 4A Boys Basketball district play begins.

Our featured game and the second match-up of our split doubleheader will come from Manchester with Bill Logan and Roger Wright as the 16-5 7th-ranked West Delaware Hawks host 3-18 Anamosa, that game will be live on KMCH and KMCH.com after our North Linn coverage. The first game inside Seedorff Gymnasium will be Marion and Maquoketa.

Also in 3A, Independence takes on Clear Creek-Amana at South Tama.

In 4A,

The 15-6 Western Dubuque Bobcats face the 9-12 Trojans of Waterloo East in Epworth.
