Hopkinton Native Leaving Inheritance to Fire Service Training Bureau

A Hopkinton native is leaving his inheritance to Iowa’s Fire Service Training Bureau.

Walter Johnson served for many years as a Deputy Commissioner in the Iowa Division of Labor. He oversaw many legal issues and the implementation of labor and safety standards in the state.

Johnson passed away a year ago at the age of 69 due to kidney failure and other complications.

The money he is leaving behind to the Fire Service Training Bureau will be used to purchase equipment to benefit fire service in the state.

Johnson’s bequest will be recognized by State Fire Marshal Dan Wood at an event in Des Moines on Thursday morning, with Johnson’s good friend and former co-worker Mary Bryant on hand for the presentation.
