Maquoketa Valley is looking into holding an ALICE training this fall to better prepare students and staff for a possible school shooting. Superintendent Doug Tuetken:
Tuetken told the school board at their meeting Monday night that he has contacted local law enforcement about the possible training.
Also at the MV School Board meeting this week, Tuetken shared the tentative school calendar for next year, which includes an additional eight early dismissals for teacher professional development. The final calendar will be approved later this month.
The Board also approved several staff changes, including the resignation of Maquoketa Valley Boys Basketball Coach Craig Dunlap and the hires of Sara Dever as High School Boys Track Coach, Allison Hesse as Elementary Music Teacher, CeAnn Palmer as High School Business Education Teacher and Ann Grant as Individual Speech Coach.
The Board also expressed their appreciation to the Maquoketa Valley Athletic Boosters for all their recent projects, which include replacing the bleachers at the softball/baseball complex and installing a batting cage in the Earlville gym.
And there are plans to add additional weekend hours to Maquoketa Valley’s fitness room in the near future. Patrons will be able to use the fitness room on Saturdays from 6 am to 6 pm, as well as on Sundays from noon to 7 pm.
