Grand View University senior and 2013 West Delaware graduate Dean Broghammer will wrestle this weekend at the NAIA national championships at the Jacobson Exhibition Center in Des Moines. Broghammer enters the tournament as the number one seed after finishing the regular season with a 22-3 record and as the top ranked heavyweight in the nation. With the national tournament being held in Des Moines, Broghammer looks forward to the home mat advantage and seeing all the fans that come to support the team:
Broghammer is a three time place-winner for Grandview and with a top eight finish at this year’s meet he would become just the third wrestler in program history to be a four time place winner and he says that was a goal he set in his freshman season:
Broghammer finished fourth in his freshman season, won the title in his sophomore year and finished fifth last season after entering the tournament as the number one seed, but says this year he plans on taking one match at a time knowing he is going to get everyone’s best effort:
Grandview in just its 10th season as a wrestling program will be seeking its seventh straight team title and after winning the heavyweight title and a team title in his senior year at West Delaware Broghammer says the he has been very fortunate to be a part of two tradition rich teams:
With this being the last tournament of his wrestling career Broghammer says he will take it in stride and try not to get caught up in the emotion of his last meet in a Grandview singlet:
