Several Honored at Delaware County Dairy Banquet

A Petersburg teen was crowned the Delaware County Dairy Princess at Saturday night’s 61st Annual Delaware County Dairy Banquet in Manchester. Shelby Westhoff says she’s looking forward to a great year.

Shelby, the daughter of Wayne and Lisa Westhoff, grew up on a dairy farm south of Petersburg.

Tehya Demmer, the daughter of Chad and Stacey Demmer of Dundee, was crowned Alternate Dairy Princess.

Little royalty was also crowned, with Anna Feldmann, the daughter of Adam and Angie Feldmann of Hopkinton, named the new Little Miss Squirt. And Wesley Helle, the son of Dan and Jill Kunde and Mitch and Haley Helle of Ryan, was named Little Mr. Herdsman.

The Distinguished Dairy Family Award was presented to Mark and Linda Vorwald of Worthington. Mark says there are others who deserve it more.

The Young Dairy Family Award was given to Rick Kruse of Petersburg. Kruse says it’s special to receive the award, especially considering that dairy farmers are becoming somewhat of a dying breed.

Virgil Reth was honored with the Distinguished Dairy Service Award, and the Sunset Family Restaurant received the Golden Butterknife Award.

And several Delaware County dairy producers were recognized with Cow and Herd awards at Saturday night’s Dairy Banquet – we’ll tell you more about that in today’s KMCH Ag Informer.
