Manchester Police and other area law enforcement are encouraging the public to use an app if they’re planning to drink over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.
The NHTSA app is called “SaferRide” and it allows users to call a designated friend (or a taxi, depending on what town you’re in) for a ride home by just identifying your location.
A spike in drunk-driving crashes is usually seen around St. Patrick’s Day each year, with nearly forty-percent of all crash fatalities involving drunk drivers.
Law enforcement will be stepping up their presence on the roads Wednesday through Saturday, with a watchful eye on drunk drivers and those not wearing seatbelts.
Drivers are also reminded to keep an eye out for pedestrians who have had too much to drink.
