The Iowa DNR will be conducting prescribed burns this spring on wildlife management areas in Delaware, Dubuque and Jones counties.
Areas scheduled for burns include Buffalo Creek in Delaware County, Whitewater in Dubuque County, and Muskrat Slough and Oxford Junction in Jones County.
The DNR says prescribed burns help improve wildlife habitat, control invasive plant species, restore and maintain native plant communities and reduce wildfire potential. They can vary in size from a few acres to several hundred acres. Areas are typically burned every one to five years.
The burns will be conducted on a day that works best with weather conditions.
