A new study shows that Regional Medical Center in Manchester is generating around 33 million dollars for the local economy.
RMC is Delaware County’s largest employer. Over 450 people are employed by the hospital, with those employees spending close to six million dollars in retail sales and contributing nearly 360-thousand dollars in state sales tax revenue.
As possible cuts to Medicaid and Medicare are contemplated, RMC officials say hospital services and jobs are put at risk – and with them, a large part of the economy. RMC officials say political leaders need to consider that when legislation and regulations financially impact hospitals and healthcare, they also impact jobs and business.
The study conducted by the Iowa Hospital Associated examined the jobs, income, retail sales, and sales tax produced by hospitals and healthcare sectors.
