The Ed-Co Girls Golf team officially got the competition part of their schedule started last Thursday afternoon as they traveled to the Little Bear Golf Course near Wyoming. With their first three meets wiped off the slate because of poor weather conditions, sixth-year head coach Alex Hanna was pleased with what he saw from his squad for the first time out. The Vikings faced Anamosa and host Midland in a triangular. Anamosa won it with a team score of 200. Ed-Co finished just 20 strokes behind at 220, the Eagles were 3rd with 320. Maddy Streicher led the way for the Vikings with a 51, Lexi Ihde had a 52, 55 for Jenna Ries, Morgan Vorwald 62, Maci Pritchard 64 and Kirstyn Payne a 67. JV girls, Mariah Zittergruen and Dinara Abdikadyr shot a 73 and 98 respectively. Ed-Co’s team score was a new low dating back to last season when they averaged 238 strokes per nine holes. Coach Hanna says “starting the year that low means they can really show a lot of growth and hopefully be really competitive at the end of the year”. He likes the experience he has returning coupled with promising newcomers added to the mix from a team that finished fifth place in the Upper Iowa Conference in 2017 as they are back in the Tri-Rivers Conference this season.
The Vikings are slated to be back on the course Tuesday afternoon as Maquoketa Valley will host them and Bellevue Marquette at Hart Ridge Golf Course near Manchester as it will be a Girls/Boys JV/Varsity meet beginning at 4pm.
Center Point-Urbana will host coverage area Boys Track teams from Ed-Co, North Linn, East Buchanan, Maquoketa Valley and Independence.
