Iowa legislators are now working on their own dime.
The session was scheduled to wrap up last Tuesday, but it’s now into overtime as lawmakers are still working to pass a budget. Republican State Representative Lee Hein of Monticello says the House budget plan was released this past week.
Hein says they are also trying to reach an agreement with the Senate on the tax reform bill, with the goal to give middle class Iowans a tax cut. But Democratic State Representative Bruce Bearinger of Oelwein tells KMCH he watches everyday as the majority party struggles with fiscal management.
Legislators are hoping to wrap up the session this week.
