ABC Trailer Lets Local Students “Experience” Hands-On Careers

Local high school students got a chance to experience a few “hands on” careers on Thursday.

The ABC Trailer of Iowa spent the day parked in the West Delaware High School parking lot in Manchester. Students from Ed-Co, Maquoketa Valley and West Delaware took turns entering the interactive trailer and putting on virtual reality goggles to get an idea of what a career in construction would look like. Ginny Shindelar travels with the ABC Trailer.

The ABC Trailer was just completed in October and it’s only been to a handful of high schools so far. West Delaware junior Jim Drummy says it was neat to experience.

Fellow classmate Tristan Ditrrick found it interesting too.

West Delaware welding instructor Seth Harms says these “hands-on careers” are in demand – so it’s great to give the students a chance to experience them through virtual reality.

Delaware County Economic Development Director Donna Boss agrees.

Boss says they hope to bring the ABC Trailer back again next year.
