Construction is underway on Manchester’s new hotel.
Boulders Inn and Suites is being built on the southwest edge of town in AJ Spiegel’s subdivision at the interchange of Highway 20 and Highway 13.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site Tuesday afternoon, with company representatives, local officials and others gathering with their gold shovels to celebrate the start of the project.
Dan Heuertz, who works with Boulders, told KMCH that Manchester was chosen for a reason.
Boulders Inn and Suites is an Iowa-based hotel chain, with over a dozen locations in the state, including Oelwein and Monticello. The new two-story Manchester hotel will look similar to those, with 32 rooms, complimentary breakfast and outdoor recreation.
The new hotel is expected to create around a dozen new jobs – and they’re using local contractors, such as Neuhaus Construction and Concrete, during the construction process. The goal is to have it open by the end of the year.
It’s about a two million dollar project and local investors have chipped to help. Delaware County Economic Development Director Donna Boss can’t thank them enough for investing in the future of the community. A new hotel has been on the wish list for years – and Boss says it will fill a big need.
Now that Boulders Inn and Suites has broken ground, other businesses are expected follow. Casey’s General Store will be breaking ground on their new truckstop in the weeks to come and there is a retail center that was built two years ago that still has available space as well. Spiegel says he knows people have been patiently waiting for things to happen out there.
