A Dyersville man was arrested Tuesday after a standoff with police in Dubuque.
Dubuque Police say 26-year old Robert Dettbarn was a passenger in a vehicle that police pulled over for an equipment violation. Dettbarn got out of the vehicle armed with a handgun and after refusing to drop the gun, he fled the area on foot with officers following. In the 2500 block of White Street, he stopped in the driveway of a home, where a standoff ensued. Police negotiators responded to the scene and after nearly two hours, Dettbarn was taken into custody without incident.
He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and then taken to the Dubuque County Jail, where he is being held on arrest warrants for First Degree Burglary and Obstruction of Emergency Communication, as well as a Delaware County warrant for Probation Violation. Additional charges are pending.
The driver, Nicole White of Lancaster, Wisconsin, was also arrested on an OWI charge. A passenger who refused to follow officer’s commands was also taken into custody.
Several roads in Dubuque were closed during the standoff. Fulton Elementary School was also placed on lockdown and homes in the area were also evacuated.
