Vinton Businesses Re-Open Following Downtown Fire

Four businesses that were either destroyed or badly damaged in a fire in downtown Vinton just three months ago are all back in business.

The Michael & Dowd Furniture Store is now located in a temporary home. The old Michael & Dowd building that burned down in February had been in the family since 1936. A new store is being built on the original location and co-owner Lisa Vogt hopes to have it open in time for the holiday season in December.

In addition to the furniture store, the fire also caused major damage at Clingman Pharmacy, Fisher Law Firm and the Benton County Title Company. They’ve all re-opened in different locations.

The damage was so extensive that fire officials were never able to determine a cause.
