Memorial Day weekend may be filled with traveling, camping, boating, swimming, grilling and other summer kick-off activities, but those who have served are asking the public to remember the reason for the holiday weekend.
Manchester veteran and Legion member Larry Tibbott encourages everyone to take the time to attend a Memorial Day service in your community.
Monday’s Manchester Memorial Day service will be held at 11 am at Oakland Cemetery.
The Earlville Legion will host their ceremony Monday at 10:30 am at the cemetery and Greeley will hold a Memorial Day Mass at 10:30 am on Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery, with a Legion service to follow.
And the Ryan Legion is hosting a number of services on Monday in the Ryan area, including at the Calvary Cemetery at 8:45 am, Lutheran Cemetery at 9, Golden Cemetery at 9:25, Silver Creek Cemetery at 9:50, Monti Bridge at 10:10, Monti Cemetery at 10:25, Masonville Cemetery at 10:50 and the Ryan Memorial at 11:30 am. A beef and ham dinner will follow at the Ryan Legion at noon.
The Legions encourage you to bring your lawn chairs – especially with the heat predicted for Monday. Umbrellas to shade you from the hot sun and bottles of water are also suggested.
