Memorial Day honors those who have died while serving our country, but did you know there is a special day set aside for Civil War soldiers who sacrificed all?
It’s called Decoration Day… and it will be celebrated tonight at the Bay Church and Cemetery. Every year, the re-enactment of the first Decoration Day program is held on May 30th at the site five miles southwest of Delhi. And Bob Sack says it’s the perfect site, as the program is held in the shadow of Iowa’s first Civil War monument.
Tonight’s Decoration Day program will include traditional music selections from the Civil War period, as well as rifle salutes and echo taps.
After the program, everyone is invited to take a tour of the Bay Church on the grounds and enjoy fellowship and refreshments.
The Bay Church and Cemetery is located four miles east of Highway 13 on Highway D-42 at 2131 275th Street. The Decoration Day program begins at 5:30 pm.
