A longtime North Linn coach has been honored by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Girls track and field coach Bob Mudd received the Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award at the State Track and Field Meet earlier this month.
The award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession.
Mudd has been coaching track and field and cross country for 42 years. During that time, he has coached many athletes to state championships, including 10-time state champion Nicole Miller and hall of famer and 13-time state champion Ellen Ries. Four of his teams captured state titles, while nine more were state runners-up.
Mudd is a member of the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame and was a finalist for National Coach of the Year.
