Extended Trail Proposed Along River in Manchester

A new trail could be going up on the east side of the Maquoketa River in Manchester.

The idea to add more walking and biking trails was the most popular request during a public poll conducted earlier this year by Manchester Good to Great. A committee formed based off of that idea, and now, the Manchester Good to Great Recreational Trail Committee is looking into improvements.

That’s committee member Scott Wulfekuhle, who says they’ll try to tackle this effort in phases. Phase One includes connecting the Whitewater Park to Vine Street and South Tama.

Over the past couple weeks, the committee has reached out to ten property owners along that stretch of land to get their thoughts on the project.

Eventually, the committee would like to continue on with Phase Two and Phase Three to create a solid trail loop throughout Manchester so residents and visitors can have a safe and convenient place to walk and ride their bikes.

The Manchester City Council showed their support for the project when recently approached by the committee. The committee will now try to move the project forward by looking into grants and other sources of funding.
