Sen. Zumbach Eager for Results of Iowa Secretary of Ag Race

State Senator Dan Zumbach is happy to see the race for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture isn’t over just yet…

Zumbach, who farms in the Ryan area, was one of the five candidates vying for the Republican nomination in last Tuesday’s primary election. But since the top vote-getter, current Secretary of Ag Mike Naig, fell just short of the required 35-percent threshold, the race now heads to the GOP State Convention on June 16th.

Zumbach earned second place with about 21-percent of the vote.

Just before the primary, Zumbach headed out on the road, traveling the state in a four-day push to meet voters across Iowa. He believes that grassroot effort helped his campaign.

He says trying to win the nomination at the State Convention will mean a lot of phone calls between now and Saturday.

Most of Delaware County’s Republican voters felt Zumbach was the “right person” – he won the county with nearly 79-percent of the vote.

The Republican nominee for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture will face Democrat Tim Gannon, a former USDA official who ran unopposed in the primary.
