HS BASEBALL: Jenk’s #11 Uniform to be retired Friday night by Beckman Catholic

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

In Area High School Baseball tonight, an emotional night will take place at Jenk Field inside Commercial Club Park in Dyersville. The Blazer Baseball program welcomes back many former players and will retire the jersey # 11 of 42-year head coach Tom Jenk Jr. who passed away from a Brain Tumor last late October. Longtime Beckman Public Address Announcer Dan McClean explains:

The regular season non-conference match-up between the Highway 136 rival Cougars features two of the most recognizable and successful Baseball schools in the state. This season is no different as the Cougars are the top-ranked team in Class 2A with a record of 17-0. The Blazers are the 2A defending champions and have a mark of 13-7. The ceremony will begin around 6:15pm after the JV contest and before the varsity teams take to the field to warm-up. Special keepsake book titled the ‘Book of Jenk’ written by McClean will be on-hand to purchase for just $5. KMCH Sports will be live and have all the coverage on KMCH and KMCH.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan with a 7pm first pitch scheduled.
