St. Mary Parish in Manchester is saying goodbye to a priest who has spent years serving their community.
Father Joe Schneider will retire next month. He recently sat down with KMCH News Director Janelle Tucker and told her that his interest in the priesthood all started very early in life when he was a child in the orphanage.
After Father Joe was ordained, he started his service in Cedar Rapids and was then assigned to Cascade and Cresco before coming to Manchester the first time around.
After some time away, Father Joe returned to Manchester several years ago.
Father Joe says early in his priesthood, he questioned the sacrifices he would have to make, but he says he quickly realized the rewards are much bigger than the drawbacks.
A retirement reception for Father Joe will be held after the 10 am Mass this Sunday at St. Mary Parish Center.
