The Delaware County Fair is showcasing a couple of new events tonight. Fair Manager Jeannie Domeyer:
The 4-H/FFA Dairy Goat Show, Dairy Show and Kiddie Dairy Show were today, with Wednesday night’s judging including the Kiddie Beef Show at 6 pm and Cow/Calf Show at 7 pm.
Yesterday was the judging for the rabbit, poultry, pet, meat goat and lamb shows. Maquoketa Valley FFA member Seth Deutmeyer of Edgewood won several honors at the poultry show with his young turkey.
Petersburg Achievers 4-H Club member Tristan Mullis brought eight chickens to the fair this year and won showmanship honors.
Mullis also showed in the sheep show last night, so he’s been keeping busy in the weeks leading up to the fair.
Mullis says it seems like the barns are getting fuller, which is good to see.
Some 4-Hers are showing for the first time this year… that included Hazel Green Hawks 4-H Club member Owen Petlon, who showed in the rabbit show on Tuesday.
Fellow club member Katherine Comley won a trophy in the poultry show, but she also has several projects on display in the pavilion this week.
Tuesday was the first day the pavilion was open to view the 4-H projects, with a select few chosen to move on to the Iowa State Fair.
