The American Legion Baseball World Series gets underway today in Shelby North Carolina. Post 137 from Dubuque County will start play at 10am this morning against Willimington , Delaware. This is Dubuque County’s first ever appearance in the World Series, and the first trip to the Series for an Iowa team since 1986. The team features several players from Beckman, Western Dubuque, and Cascade. Their second game will be Friday night at 7 against Braintree, Massachusetts; then Saturday at 7:30 against Gonzales, Louisiana. Teams are divided into two pools, the Stars and the Stripes, with the top two in each pool advancing to the knockout round. The semi-finals are on Monday and the championship game is Tuesday.
