HS SPORTS: Area Coverage Schools Hold Scrimmages Tonight

The 2018 High School Football season officially starts tonight around the state with Week zero games.

In the listening area:

Midland will host Lone Tree in Wyoming and Springville entertains Winfield-Mt. Union, both with 7pm kick-offs.

The West Delaware Hawks will hold their annual inter-squad scrimmages at the Silver Bowl on Brown Field that coincide with the WD Athletic Booster Club 2018-19 Membership Kick-Off Drive. The evening will begin at 5:45pm with the 9th and 10th grade Football teams taking the field first. When they are done scrimmaging at about 6:45, introduction of the Football Cheerleaders, Football teams, HS Boys and Girls Cross Country teams and 9th, 10th, JV and Varsity Volleyball teams will take place. Around 7:30pm the Varsity Football will start their scrimmage. The Booster Club will be serving brats/hamburgers, chips and water. With a bought membership, fans will be given a meal featuring those concession stand items in appreciation for those members who are renewing their current membership and any new members who will be joining. KMCH Sports will be on-hand broadcasting the annual WD Fall Sports Preview Show live on KMCH and KMCH.com as Sports Director Jon Swisher will be joined by Jamie Vaske, Aaron Plein and Bill Logan. The crew will take the air at 6pm and will preview and interview all of the Hawk coaches, some players and AD Matt Weis.

North Linn will also have a inter-squad scrimmage starting at 6:30pm, fans are asked to bring a sports drink for their admission.

Other area coverage schools will take part in scrimmages against other schools tonight:

Anamosa will host Tipton at Downing Field with the JV beginning at 5:30pm followed by the Varsity at 6:30pm.

Cascade travels to Alburnett, with the JV at 5:30pm and Varsity at 7pm.

Monticello hosts Dubuque Wahlert at Dean Nelson Field with a 6pm start time.

Independence welcomes in North Tama to Lyle Leinbaugh Field with their scrimmage starting at 7pm.
