HS CROSS COUNTRY: WD Hawks Begin Season Tuesday

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The West Delaware Hawks will begin the competition part of the 2018 Cross Country season this evening.

Numbers of runners out are pretty good for both programs, as the girls have 26 while the boys have almost 36.

Sixth -year boys head coach Dale Meyer talks about being unsure of what to really expect coming into the preseason because of the loss of some quality experience but he has been pleased:

Coach Meyer is glad to have the most amount of boys he has ever had on a roster out this season:

Seventh-year girls head coach Ben Moser says the lower numbers for his group hasn’t been a bad thing because of the level of competition among the squad:

Coach Moser talks about that mindset of his girls knowing they will be pushed for running time each time out on the course:

West Delaware will be one of 14 schools participating in the meet at Mount Vernon high school including the host team Mount Vernon-Lisbon. Coach Moser comments why the Hawks continue to run in such a tough meet every year to begin their season:

The meet will begin at 5pm with the Girls race followed by the Boys.

Ed-Co will host their annual early season meet at the Woods Edge golf course beginning at 4:30pm this afternoon. Twelve other schools will partake including Beckman, Central Elkader and Starmont.
