A disaster proclamation has been issued for Buchanan County.
It’s in response to the severe storms that took place earlier this month. Heavy rains caused major flooding in Independence and other areas of the county last week.
The governor’s proclamation allows state resources to be utilized and activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program. That program would provide grants up to five thousand dollars for qualifying residents affected by the storms. More information can be found on the Iowa Department of Human Services website.
Disaster Case Management is also available to Buchanan County residents – it’s a program that helps residents with such things as creating a disaster recovery plan and getting a referral for a service or resource. More details can be found online at iowacommunityaction.org.
Any Buchanan County residents impacted by this month’s flooding or storms are asked to report their damage to Emergency Management to help local and state officials better understand the impact of the disaster – that includes damage to property, roads and utilities.
