Fire Ignited after Semi Crashes into Linn County Home

A semi crashed into a home and started it on fire south of Central City Monday night.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says it happened shortly after 5 pm east of Highway 13 at 1551 County Home Road. The semi was eastbound on County Home Road when it lost control and went into the ditch. The semi continued traveling through the ditch and into a backyard, striking a house and knocking the house off its foundation. Just after striking the home, the semi caught fire, igniting the house too.

The semi driver, 70-year old James Ward of Center Junction, was able to get out with minor injuries. He refused medical treatment.

The owner of the property, Rodney Peyton, was outside at the time of the accident. He wasn’t hurt.

The home’s renter, Michelle Burke, was home, but was able to get outside without injury.

Ward was cited for the accident and released from the scene.
