A tornado touched down near Alburnett on Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service says a preliminary survey of the storm damage shows an EF1 tornado touched down about a mile south of town near Arabian Road and Alburnett Road.
They say the tornado was on the ground for about a quarter of a mile. The tornado was only about twenty yards wide, with estimated peak winds of 110 miles per hour.
The tornado damaged hardwood trees, which were snapped and uprooted.
No injuries were reported.
The tornado was part of a line of severe thunderstorms that quickly moved through Linn and Jones counties. Tuesday’s storms in east-central Iowa on also produced an EF0 tornado just southeast of Mechanicsville in Cedar County that damaged a couple of grain bins.
