Bushel & A Peck Cleaning Up After Flood

One Manchester business is busy cleaning up this week after the floodwaters struck Monday night.

Bushel & A Peck sits right along the Maquoketa River on West Main Street. The little shop, which offers baked goods, meats, pumpkins and gifts, is closed this week – with the store completely empty and the flooring ripped up.

It’s the first big flood for owner Dave Reiss and his wife, Kendy, who bought Bushel & A Peck from Dave and Cookie Cole earlier this year. The Coles have been helping the Reiss’ through this flood, just like many people helped the Coles through numerous floods in the years before.

Helpers were busy hosing down and sweeping up on Wednesday morning. And they’re keeping a positive attitude – Reiss says they’re hoping to use this time to get a few renovations done.

Bushel & A Peck hopes to be open by this time next week. But with more rain in the forecast, they’re keeping those sandbags handy in case they’re needed again.
