30th Year for Anamosa Pumpkinfest

Anamosa Pumpkinfest is this weekend.

It’s the 30th year for the event, which has a history of bringing in some of the world’s largest pumpkins. Anamosa Chamber Director LeeAnna Boone says they’re expecting a good turnout for their annual Ryan Norlin GIANT Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

Wrestlers from Anamosa High School help unload the pumpkins and get them on the scale. Some of the biggest pumpkins they’ve seen have weighed in at over 2,000 pounds. The Weigh-Off starts at 8 am at the Lawrence Community Center, with awards at noon. The top prize is $4,000.

Boone says despite the forecast, the event will be held rain or shine.

Along with the pumpkin weigh-off, Anamosa Pumpkinfest will also offer a hay bale toss, pumpkin carving, a car smash, pancake breakfast and much more. Visit Anamosa Pumpkinfest on Facebook for more details.
