Day two of the High School State Volleyball Tournament saw KMCH Sports coverage area teams go 1-1. The Class 2A top-seeded Beckman Blazers came back after a slow start to sweep the 8th-seed Wilton 3-0. The Blazers won 25-21, 25-13 and 25-17. Total match score of 75-51 in a match that lasted one hour and two minutes. Isabelle Bennett led the offense with 15 kills, 14 for Ellie Bildstein, 9 for Heather Boeckenstedt, 5 for Caroline Kluesner and Paige McDermott, 2 for Sydney Steffen. Beckman who improved their record to 44-3 won their first match at the state tourney since 2006 and advance on to semifinal play this afternoon at 4pm as they will take on 31-6 Unity Christian. The Starmont Stars were denied of their 1st match win in State Tourney play after winning their first ever set as they took down Tripoli 25-21 in set one then lost 3 games, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21. 96-86 was the final score in an hour and twenty-five minutes. Hayley Goedken had 13 kills, 10 for Madilyn Vaske, 7 for Macy Mommer, Isabel Johanns 6, 3 for Vanessa Hamlett and 1 for Regan Janssen. The Stars closed at 29-7 and say goodbye to a remarkable senior class who was a part of program history by going to three state tournaments in a row. The 7 seniors also included Libero Katie Berry.
The High School Football postseason resumes today with semifinal play inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Class 3A Western Dubuque will face Sergeant Bluff-Luton at 5:30pm. All the coverage can be heard live on KMCH and KMCH.com with Jamie Vaske and Aaron Plein.
