Independence – John H. ”Jack” Schweitzer, 90 years old, of Rockford, Illinois, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, November 19, 2018, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He was born on May 16, 1928, in Caulder, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Bert Samuel and Veronica E. (Reles) Schweitzer. In 1936 he moved with his family to the United States. He graduated from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa, with the Class of 1947. In 1951, he and the former Mary Ann White were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. She preceded him in death in 1989. On August 17, 1990, he and the former Maxine Charlotte Stanford were married in Osage Beach, Missouri. She preceded him in death in 2018. For 30 years, Mr. Schweitzer was a self employed beverage distributor. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Mr. Schweitzer is survived by 1 daughter, Beverly (Richard) Schindler of Love’s Park, Illinois, 2 sons, Steve (Kimberly) Schweitzer of Rockford, and David (Judy) Schweitzer of Machesney Park, Illinois, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 step daughter, Jacqueline Marlatt of Gravois Mills, Missouri, 2 step sons, Michael Tuttle of Gravois Mills, and Richard Tuttle of Salinas, California, and 3 step grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating.
