Fire Destroys Strawberry Point Boarding Home

A fire destroyed a boarding home in Strawberry Point on Monday afternoon.

It happened at Circle of Life Ministries at 624 Commercial Street shortly before 1 pm. The building was engulfed in flames when Strawberry Point Fire, Police and EMS arrived on the scene.

Circle of Life provides services to veterans and seniors in their homes. It also rents rooms to individuals at their boarding home.

Strawberry Point Police tell KMCH that several residents were displaced from their rooms, but were evacuated from the building safely. Police say the Red Cross, along with city/county officials and emergency management staff, have arranged for temporary housing for those displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Emergency services were on the scene until about 5 pm.

The City of Strawberry Point says due to the demand on their water system to pump water to put out the fire, residents may be experiencing rusty-colored water. They say this is temporary and the water is still safe. The City’s Public Works staff is watching the system closely to ensure safe drinking water in Strawberry Point.
