Delaware County is moving forward to have preliminary plans drawn up for a possible new jail.
If you’ll remember, the Board said two weeks ago that they would proceed with preliminary plans for a new jail if the County Attorney gave his approval. He has – so on Monday, the County Supervisors gave the okay to take the next step.
That’s County Supervisor Shirley Helmrichs. The state jail inspector has been pushing Delaware County officials to make improvements or they could risk closing the jail.
The Board of Supervisors is still looking at potential sites for a possible new jail. They were told Monday they could be presented with those preliminary plans before Christmas.
