Free Radon Awareness Workshop Planned in Manchester

The community is partnering to host a free Radon Awareness Workshop next week.

January is Radon Awareness Month. Radon is a natural, radioactive gas that can cause cancer. According to the EPA, radon is the first leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer in smokers. Iowa has one of the highest rates of elevated radon levels in the nation – and high levels of radon can be found in any type of home, so it’s important for everyone to test their home.

This free Radon Awareness Workshop will be held Monday night at 7 pm at the Delaware County Extension Office in Manchester. You can find out how to test for radon in your home and what remedies and mitigation options are available. Radon test kits will also be available for seven dollars.

Registration is required by this Friday. To get signed up, call the Extension Office at 927-4201.
