Several local FSA offices will temporarily re-open in the midst of the partial government shutdown.
Along with the Delaware County Farm Service Agency office in Manchester, FSA offices in Buchanan, Dubuque and Clayton counties will also temporarily re-open for three days.
The USDA has recalled about 25-hundred FSA employees nationwide to open offices this Thursday and Friday, as well as next Tuesday. The offices are being temporarily re-opened to perform certain limited services for farmers and ranchers.
In almost half of FSA locations, staff will be available to assist ag producers with existing farm loans and to ensure the agency provides 1099 tax documents to borrowers by the IRS’s deadline.
While staff are available in person during this three-day window, most available services can be handled over the phone.
