The dangerously cold weather is coming to an end… and it’s left us with record to near-record temperatures across eastern Iowa.
Thursday morning’s minus-30 in Cedar Rapids shattered the minus-21 set back in 1996. The minus-28 in Iowa City beat out the record low 18-below also set in 1996.
Here in Manchester, we did not set any records this week, but we came pretty close. Our low on Thursday morning was 35-below-zero – that’s one degree above the record set ten years ago when we dipped to 36-below-zero on January 15, 2009. Our high temperature on Wednesday just missed the record too – we reached 15-below-zero during the daytime hours, but it wasn’t enough to beat the record, which was 19-below-zero set back on February 2, 1996.
A warm-up is on the way as we head into the weekend. Highs are forecasted to be in the 30’s on Saturday and 40’s on Sunday.
