HS Wrestling: Postseason Begins Saturday With Sectional Tournaments

The high school wrestling postseason will get underway tomorrow as area teams in class 1A and 2A will compete in their sectional tournaments, with the top two place-winners in each weight class qualifying for districts next Saturday, and the top two teams from each sectional qualifying for the regional duals next Tuesday. In Manchester, West Delaware will host five teams which include Benton Community, Center Point-Urbana, Mount Vernon, Vinton-Shellsburg, and Dubuque Wahlert. With the inclement weather this week West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss says that even though they weren’t able to have practice most of the week the guys found ways to stay active and get personal workouts in:

The sectional will feature 15 ranked wrestlers and all but Dubuque Wahlert is out of the WaMaC conference and although there will be many repeat match-ups from throughout the season Voss is confident his team realizes that none of the past results play a factor in tomorrow’s matches:

The top two place-winners in the West Delaware sectional will meet up against the top two from the Davenport Assumption sectional which features Anamosa, Monticello, Assumption, Camanche, Central DeWitt, and Maquoketa. Also in class 2A Independence will be at Aplington-Parkersburg along with AP-GC, BCLUW, Waterloo Columbus, Dike-New Hartford, and Union LaPorte City.

In class 1A Cascade and Starmont will both host sectionals with the top two meeting in the districts which will be held in Jesup next Saturday. The Cascade sectional features the host Cougars, Beckman, East Buchanan, North Linn, Alburnett, Bellevue, Central City, and Midland. In Starmont the Stars will host Ed-Co, Maquoketa Valley, Central Elkader, Clayton Ridge, Don Bosco, and Jesup.

Also on the wrestling schedule for tomorrow, Western Dubuque will wrestle for their first Mississippi Valley conference dual title as they will make up their dual against Cedar Rapids Prairie which was scheduled for last night, they will wrestle that dual at 10:00 am tomorrow morning in Cedar Rapids.
