52 area wrestlers placed in the top two of their weight classes at sectional meets on Saturday to advance to districts next Saturday. Four area teams also placed in the top two of their sectionals and qualified for regional duals on Tuesday night.
In Manchester: West Delaware advance 12 wrestlers to the district meet and walked away with the team title as they scored 280 points which was 93 points better than 2nd place Mount Vernon. Individual qualifiers for the Hawks were Blake Engel at 106, Stavely Maury at 126, Ryan Phillips at 132, Jadyn Peyton at 138, Cael Meyer at 145, Mitchel Mangold at 152, Jared Voss at 160, Wyatt Voelker at 170, Jack Neuhaus at 182, Jordan Bries at 195, Ben Petlon at 220 pounds, and Carson Petlon at heavyweight. The top ranked Hawks in class 2A will host a regional dual on Tuesday as they will wrestle 30th ranked Washington in one semifinal, with the winner to take on the winner of 15th ranked West Liberty and 23rd ranked Camanche. In Davenport: The top two place-winners of West Delaware sectional will take on the top two of the sectional that was held at Assumption High School as Anamosa and Monticello combined for seven district qualifiers. For Monticello it was Owen Ray at 113, Kain Luensman at 126, Chase Luensman at 145, and Lake Stahlberg at 220 pounds all qualifying for the Panthers. Qualifiers for Anamosa were Mitchell Engelbart at 138, Nathan Keating at 160, and Connor Andersen at heavyweight. Davenport Assumption won the sectional with Camanche coming in 2nd. In Parkersburg: Independence had seven individuals finish in the top two of their weight classes in the class 2A sectional 9 and also qualified for the regional duals with a runner-up team finish just 7.5 team points behind the champion Union LaPorte City. The 20th ranked Mustangs will now travel to New Hampton and wrestle 25th ranked Hampton-Dumont one semifinal with the winner to face the winner of the other semifinal between 3rd ranked New Hampton/Turkey Valley and 32nd ranked Mount Vernon. In Cascade: Beckman won the class 1A sectional in Cascade which qualified them for the regional duals while also qualifying five individuals to the district meet. The Blazers will travel to Denver and take on Alburnett in one semifinal with the winner of that dual to face either Denver or Highland Riverside. Connor Grover at 120, Grant Hoeger at 138, Mason Recker at 145, Owen Huehnergarth at 160, and Owen Grover at 195 pounds all qualified for districts. North Linn also sent five wrestlers through the sectional meet as they are Cade Cook at 113, Curtis Schott at 126, Heath Moyer at 132, Brady Henderson at 152, and Quinton Rechkemmer at 182 pounds. East Buchanan had three district qualifiers as TJ Lau at 145, Luke Recker at 220 pounds, and Taylor Fox at heavyweight all place in the top two. Cascade advanced four wrestlers to districts as Aidan Noonan at 113, Nolan Noonan at 132, Connor Conlin at 138, and Zach Ries at 170 pounds all qualified for the Cougars. In Arlington: Maquoketa Valley, Ed-Co, and Starmont all qualified three wrestlers a piece to districts, and Maquoketa Valley was the runner-up and advanced to a regional dual at Lisbon on Tuesday night. The Wildcats’ three qualifiers were Parker Sternhagen at 145, James LeGassick at 170, and Michael Feldmann at 220 pounds, as they will take on Wilton in their semifinal on Tuesday night as the other semifinal features Lisbon and New London. Ed-Co finished 3rd and their three qualifiers were Dayne Bergan at 120, Jordan Wegmann at 152, and Spencer Amling at 160 pounds. Starmont finished 4th as Mikel Kugel at 106, Bowen Munger at 126, and Louis Hamlett at 220 pounds were the Stars district qualifiers. For complete results click HERE.
