A trip to the 2019 state duals is on the line tonight inside the Seedorff Gymnasium as the West Delaware wrestling team looks to build on their 3rd place finish from a season ago as they host a class 2A regional dual. The Hawks will face 30th ranked Washington in the semifinals with 15th ranked West Liberty taking on 23rd ranked Camanche in the other. The Hawks qualified for the regional duals by winning the sectional they hosted on Saturday and qualified 12 wrestlers to the district meet, and with the lack of practice days available last week head coach Jeff Voss was happy with the way team responded to the adversity:
The Hawks first opponent will be a Washington team that won the sectional at Fairfield and qualified nine wrestlers to the district meet, and although the Demons are a team they don’t see throughout the season Voss likes wrestling teams they don’t know much about:
If the Hawks are to reach the finals tonight they will take on either a West Liberty team they saw at the Benton Community Invitational or a Camanche team they haven’t seen but have four individual first round match-ups with at the district meet on Saturday, so Voss wouldn’t mind seeing those matches in the regional dual final if the opportunity presents itself:
Wrestling gets underway at 6:00 and you can catch all of the action with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske on KMCH and KMCH.com.
In other regional duals on Tuesday, in class 2A Independence will head to New Hampton as the 20th ranked Mustangs will take on 25th ranked Hampton-Dumont as the other semifinal will pit 3rd ranked New Hampton/Turkey Valley and 32nd ranked Mount Vernon.
In class 1A the 44th ranked Beckman Blazers will be in Denver to take on 25th ranked Alburnett with the winner to face either 2nd ranked Denver or unranked Highland Riverside, and Maquoketa Valley who is ranked 48th will be in Lisbon and will take on 24th ranked Wilton, and with a win will face either 3rd ranked Lisbon or unranked New London.
