Betty Fistler age 90, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at University Hospitals, Iowa City following a brief illness.
A Life Celebration Service will be held 11:00 Saturday morning, February 9, 2019 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 Saturday morning at the funeral home. Pastor Ed Moreano will officiate at the services. Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www. Goettschonline.com. In Lieu of Flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving is her daughter Connie (Mike) Vincent, Keota, 2 grandsons, Jared (Heidi) Vincent, Ankeny, Travis (Maria) Vincent, Clive, 5 great-grandchildren, Cole, Irie, Rowe, Callan and Alexa, 3 step-great- grandchildren, Averey, Elsa and Augie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don in 1991, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Elizabeth Dena Brass was born November 12, 1928 at Iowa Falls, Iowa. She was the daughter of Eppie and Margaret Boyenga, Brass. Betty graduated from the Geneva High School in 1946 where she was a member of the Girls Basketball Team. Elizabeth Brass married Donald Fistler on April 28, 1949 at Ackley, Iowa. The couple lived in Ackley were Betty and a partner owned and operated The Tot and Teen Shop. Betty and Don moved to Monticello in 1964 when they purchased the Monticello Shoppers Guide. They published the Shoppers Guide until 1987 when they retired.
Following Don’s Death in 1991 Betty needed to be busy so she began to Hostess at The Heights Supper Club. She also began taking bus trips to casinos and soon was organizing and hosting the trips. She hosted her last trips in the fall of 2017. Betty was an avid bridge player. She tried to play at least 3 times a week.
