A chance to advance to the 2019 state wrestling tournament is on the line tomorrow for several area wrestlers who qualified for district tournaments and all 14 Western Dubuque Bobcats. 52 wrestlers qualified for districts in class 1A in 2A and look to place in the top two of their weight classes again tomorrow. West Delaware qualified 12 wrestlers, Monticello advanced four, and Anamosa qualified three wrestlers to the district meet which will be held at Central DeWitt. West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss says the schedule they wrestle all season has prepared the team for the quality of competition they will see moving forward:
Wrestling gets underway at noon and coverage of the Central DeWitt district can be heard right here on KMCH and KMCH.com with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske.
Independence advanced seven wrestlers to the district meet and will host class 2A district 5. In class 1A all of our area wrestlers will be in Jesup in the class 1A district 3 meet. Beckman and North Linn lead the way with five qualifiers, Cascade has four, and East Buchanan, Ed-Co, Maquoketa Valley, and Starmont all have three.
Western Dubuque will host a class 3A district in Epworth which will feature Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Jefferson, and Washington, Dubuque Hempstead, and Senior, Linn Mar, and Marion. Western Dubuque head coach Paul Cleary says hosting the district meet not only gives the community the chance to support the team, it builds interest in wrestling for the future of the program:
Wrestling for all district meets begin at noon and Jamie Vaske will have updates of the other area districts throughout coverage of the Central DeWitt district.
