HS Wrestling: District Wrestling Recap

There will be 31 area wrestlers competing at this years state wrestling tournament as they all placed in the top two of their weight classes Saturday at district tournaments.

In DeWitt: West Delaware led our area teams with eight state individual qualifiers, as advancing to the state meet for the Hawks were Ryan Phillips at 132, Jadyn Peyton at 138, Cael Meyer at 145, Mitchel Mangold at 152, Wyatt Voelker at 170, Jack Neuhaus at 182, Jordan Bries at 195, and Carson Petlon at heavyweight will all compete at the state meet. Monticello advanced three wrestlers from the DeWitt district as they are Kain Luensman at 126 pounds, Chase Luensman at 145, and Lake Stahlberg at 220 pounds all qualified for the Panthers. In Independence: The Independence wrestling team qualified four wrestlers from the district they hosted on Saturday, and competing in the individual tournament on Thursday for the Mustangs will be Isaiah Weber at 113, Matthew Doyle at 152, Cole Davis at 160 pounds, and Drew Evans at heavyweight. In Jesup: East Buchanan led the way for state qualifiers in class 1A for area state qualifiers as they had three wrestlers finish in the top two as TJ Lau at 145, Luke Recker at 220, and Taylor Fox at heavyweight all qualified for the Buccaneers. North Linn had two state qualifiers in Brady Henderson at 152, and Quinton Rechkemmer at 182, Beckman had two wrestlers advance as Grant Hoeger at 138, and Owen Grover at 195 pounds both qualified for the Blazers. Cascade qualified two wrestlers in Aidan Noonan at 113, and Nolan Noonan at 132 pounds, and Ed-Co and Starmont both qualified one a piece as for the Vikings it was Spencer Amling at 160, and for Starmont it was Bowen Munger qualifying at 126 pounds. In Epworth: Western Dubuque moved five wrestlers on to the state meet as they hosted districts in Epworth on Saturday. At 113 pounds it was Dawson Biermann, Elijah Demmer at 152, Ryker Kurimski at 160, it was Jake Hosch at 170, and Devin Ludwig at 182 pounds who qualified for the state tournament.
