West Delaware has come up with a plan to make up the record number of winter weather cancellations this winter.
Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey:
Rickey says the school district’s administrative team had many discussions on the best way to make up those missed hours. They took into consideration the best focus time for students, as well as what the impact would be if school went too far into summer – affecting family activities, athletics and summer college classes.
Rickey says as an administrator, she’s never seen a winter like one.
Rickey adds that while the students’ time in school is measured in hours, the staff is on contract days… so they’ll need to make up those days through professional development, most likely after the school year ends.
