The Lake Delhi Trustees have given back to an organization that helped them in a big way last summer.
Project AWARE came to Delaware County last July to clean a stretch of the Maquoketa River – and that included Lake Delhi.
That’s the new president of the Lake Delhi Trustees, Dan Staebell, who says Project AWARE’s volunteers pulled out boat motors, pieces of docks and other debris. The Trustees appreciated their efforts so much that they recently presented the group with a 15-thousand dollar check.
Project AWARE won’t be back every year, but Staebell says the clean-up effort at Lake Delhi is ongoing among its residents since the devastating dam breach in 2010. And with water back in the lake, their community has slowly but surely been bouncing back.
