HS GIRLS BASKETBALL: State Scores from Day 4 and Cascade Semifinal Preview

Day four of the 2019 Girls Basketball State Tournament took place yesterday inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Semifinal play was held in Class 5A, 4A and 3A:

Class 5A

West Des  Moines Valley 76, Johnston 64 (OT)

Southeast Polk 72, Dowling Catholic 61

Class 5A Championship tonight=
6:00 p.m. –  West Des Moines Valley (19-5) vs. Southeast Polk (21-3)

Class 3A

North Polk 65,  Waukon 49

Center Point-Urbana 55, Des Moines Christian 26

Class 3A Championship tonight=
8:00 p.m. – North Polk (23-2) vs. Center Point-Urbana (23-2)

Class 4A
Marion 75,  Mason City 54

North Scott 75, Bishop Heelan 47

Class 4A State Championship Saturday afternoon=
3:00 p.m. – Marion (23-1) vs. North Scott (21-3)

Today at the tourney, semifinal contests continue in 1A and 2A.

Our only remaining coverage team 23-1 fourth-seeded Cascade will go up against the top-seed 23-0 Grundy Center in the first 2A game.  It will be the second meeting ever for the two teams as the Cougars won the first memorable match-up last season in the 2A championship game 41-37. Cougars junior Jordan Simon says her team is looking forward to facing the Spartans again:

Also in 2A at 11:45am, 23-0 Central Decatur takes on 24-1 Treynor. The 2A winner will play for the title at 5pm Saturday evening.

Class 1A
1:30 p.m. – Newell-Fonda (25-0) vs. Marquette Catholic (22-2)

3:15 p.m. – West Hancock (24-1) vs. Montezuma (22-2)

1A championship contest will be Saturday night at 7pm.
