The Delaware County Dairy Council held their 62nd Annual Dairy Banquet on Saturday night.
New royalty was crowned, with Abby Klostermann of Dyersville named the 2019 Delaware County Dairy Princess.
Abby is the daughter of Michelle and Chris Klostermann – and the teen says she loves getting the opportunity to work with her dad.
Alternate Dairy Princesses were Amber Engelken and Lauren Goldsmith, both of Earlville.
Several awards were also presented, with the Young Dairy Family Award going to several siblings – Jennifer Zumbach, Daniel Kunde and Michael Kunde – who have continued their family tradition of dairy farming.
The Distinguished Dairy Family Award was given to Greg and Pam Carroll of Ryan.
The Golden Butterknife Award was presented to R Place in Masonville, and the Distinguished Dairy Service Award went to Dennis Kirby.
There was also a new award honoring an employee of a dairy farm, with this year’s honoree Chad Ries, who works for the Tom & Cherrie Engelken family of Earlville.
The Dairy Council presented scholarships to Cole Kruse of Petersburg and Evan Gaul of Colesburg. The Dave Knipper family also presented two scholarships in Dave’s memory – those scholarships were given to Cole Kruse and Amanda Engelken.
And little royalty was also crowned, with Ariel Holthaus of Colesburg named Little Miss Squirt and Kinley Hoeger of Earlville named Alternate. Will Zumbach of Coggon was named Little Mr. Herdsman, and Treyton Overmann of Dyersville was named Alternate. Overmann says he keeps busy on his farm.
Last year’s Alternate Little Mr. Herdsman Karl Zumbach of Coggon says there’s one thing he’ll miss the most this year.
He and last year’s Little Mr. Herdsman Wesley Helle of Ryan had some important advice for the new little royalty.
Several awards were also given to recognize cows and herds in the county:
