Ronald D. Wilhelm – Manchester

Ronald D. Wilhelm, 80, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019. Visitation: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Manchester, with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon after. Burial: Forestville Cemetery, Dundee, Iowa. Arrangements by Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa.

Ron was born May 7, 1938, near Masonville, Iowa, the son of Peter E. and Donna Ruth (Jessen) Wilhelm. Ron was a 1957 graduate of Strawberry Point High School in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Following school, Ron operated a service station in Strawberry Point and was a milk route driver.

On September 6, 1968, Ron married Sharon F. Staskal in Galena, Illinois. The couple lived in Manchester, until 1996, when they moved to Dundee, Iowa. Ron was an officer with the Strawberry Point Police Dept. until joining the Manchester Police Dept. in 1974. He was a Strawberry Point Fireman from 1958 – 1974. In November of 1976, Ron became a deputy with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department. He was elected Sheriff in 1988, and served until his retirement in January of 2001.

Ron is a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Manchester.

Ron’s family includes three children, Pam (Dan) Caffrey of Indianola, Iowa,  Cindy (Kirt) Walker of New Albany, Ohio, and Denise Wilhelm of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one step-son, Russell Sebetka; one daughter-in-law, Amanda Wilhelm of West Des Moines, Iowa; eight granddaughters; one step-granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Anna Lou Streicher of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and Christy (Ron) Moser of Guttenberg, Iowa; brother, Keith (Darlene) Wilhelm of Elkader, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Ray Bartels of Oelwein, Iowa.

Family members that preceded Ron in death include his parents; his wife, Sharon Wilhelm; son, Ron Wilhelm, Jr.; brothers, Glen Wilhelm (infancy) and Bob Wilhelm; sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Darling and Carol Lee Bartels; and brother-in-law, Duane Streicher.

Memorials may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Camp Courageous of Iowa, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
