Autopsy Results Released in Fairbank Death

A man’s death in Fairbank last Friday has been ruled a homicide.

The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner has completed an autopsy of 36-year old Brock Niebuhr of Dike.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office says last Friday around 5:30 pm, they received a call from Buchanan County Dispatch, requesting deputies to respond to 2682 Vine Avenue in Fairbank for a report of someone who was dead and may have been stabbed.

Deputies arrived a short time later and found Brock Niebuhr dead with a gunshot wound.

His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, which was completed on Monday. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the neck. His manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Authorities say Brock’s father, Daniel Niebuhr, told investigators that he walked up behind his son and shot him in the head as he was on the couch watching television.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive.

Daniel Niebuhr remains in the Bremer County Jail on a charge of First Degree Murder.
